Borknagar parts with drummer David Kinkade

BORKNAGAR part ways with drummer David Kinkade

BORKNAGAR has decided to part ways with the US drummer David Kinkade. This is first and foremost due to the logistical challenges we have been facing having a US drummer in a Norwegian band the last couple of years. Sometimes reality bites and in order to be a fully operative band, we need a drummer based in Norway. The split is of friendly manner and we would like to say thanks for everything David has contributed with in relations to the band and we would also like to wish him the best of luck for his future endevours.

BORKNAGAR is currently finishing up the recording of the 9th. album which is planned to be released early next year. As we speak Vintersorg and ICS Vortex are working on the vocal arrangements and we are all exited about the new effort we currently are brewing. The album will be mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren in Fascination Street Studio later this years.

More details and information will be issued soon!

This was kinda expected, since the failed move to Norway and the full time commitment of Dave in Soulfly.

I’m confident that you’ll find the right guy behind the kit…

I saw in a post somewhere that you more or less expected this yes. We are already scouting 😉

Consider teaming up with Paul – ex Vader’s drummer

FANTASTIC! Borknagar with dave kinkade sounded empty to such an extreme level. A drummer of asgier’s skill needs to be brought into the ranks! Not even the mighty hell hammer could fill this spot…. who is it going to be?

This is unfortunate but I am still excited to hear the new album :)

Well, Dave was kind of Speed bass/ atack drummer (some times this is good, but not allways), but without Asgeir complexity in the creations. Better luck with next drummer!

i said complexity?! Well i think i didnt choose the right word. He plays complex things, but he focus atack and speed where he could focus in something else.

    Or not….. !

His drumming is far from complex. It’s basic death metal style drumming. Constantly straight quarter, 8ths, 16ths or 32nd note runs with no polyrhythmic over layering. Especially over groovy parts. He’s the Lars Ulrich of death metal drummers, except he never innovated anything with a huge band.

Not to say he isn’t good, because he has talent, it’s just one dimensional.

Think of Dave Kinkade as a Boxer and think of Asgeir Mickelson as a Mixed-Martial Art fighter. A Damned good Mixed martial art fighter.
